Jan 17, 2023 · One of my favorite Chinese actors. I first discovered Gong Li in Memoirs of a Geisha. Also loved her in Miami Vice & Hannibal Rising. In my opinion, Gong is one of the most beautiful women on the screen.

It is such a nice surprise to see Zhang YiMou on here - raise the red lantern is his magnum opus and his BEST film aside from To Live. The ending of this still haunts me and Gong Li is THAT girl. The cinematography, the themes of powerlessness and the plight of women back then, the sense of dread and feeling trapped, ugh such an amazing film

Well in the case of beauty and the beast, the jungle book and Mulan the Disney animated movies were all based on prior works or legends so making it different from the animated version could be easily justified by saying they are taking a different approach to the source material.

Aug 20, 2023 · Top 3 for actresses is definitely Gong Li, Zhang Ziyi, and Zhou Xun. Actors is a lot tougher, but I would say the 80s/90s HK actors are much more famous than China's actors. Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fat, Stephen Chow, Andy Lau, Tony Leung, Leslie Cheung, Donnie Yen are some examples.

Gong Li is of a different calibre and truly was Zhang Yimou's muse. Really enjoyed all his earlier films that starred her, she was magnetic and mesmerising on screen. I feel like the quality of his films went down considerably after they stopped working together (Curse of the Golden Flower was a curse). She doesn't need to do c-dramas.
