PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia's largest city workers union has wrapped up a strike authorization vote. However, ballots with the strike authorization voting will be counted on Thursday. District 33 represents at least 9,000 mostly blue-collar employees, including sanitation workers.

Local 234 unilaterally overturned the will of transit workers to strike as their one-year contract expired last week.

The union that represents thousands of Philadelphia mass transit system workers has agreed to delay a potential strike, saying progress was being made in ongoing contract talks.

SEPTA and its union workers represented by Transit Workers Union Local 234 are scheduled to continue talks on Monday with the hope of preventing a strike. The two sides met early on Sunday as negotiations continued with the transit agency.
