WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert has now apologized for an answer she gave about hateful speech directed toward players on social media. According to ESPN, Engelbert sent out a letter in which she expressed regret for her comments.

Cathy Engelbert did little to address the unhinged words and actions from fans, and WNBA players ripped her for it.

Commissioner Engelbert passed up on the opportunity to denounce racism and bigotry when asked about it in an interview on Monday evening.

"Here is the answer that the commissioner should have provided," the WNBPA's Terri Jackson wrote. "There is absolutely no place in sport — or in life — for the vile hate, racist language, homphobic comments and misogynistic attacks our players are facing on social media.
