Hughes Fire initially started 10:53 a.m. Jan. 22 in Los Angeles County. It has burned 10,396 acres after being active for 46 hours. By Friday morning, the fire crew succeeded in containing 56% of the wildfire. The cause is, however, still being investigated.

Firefighters made progress on the more than 10,000-acre Hughes Fire Friday, which sent thousands fleeing after sparking near the Los Angeles County community of Castaic a day earlier.

Sepulveda Fire initially started 12:36 a.m. Jan. 23 in Los Angeles County. After being active for 35 hours, it has burned 45 acres. As of Friday noon, the fire crew successfully encircled the entire perimeter of the fire in control lines. The cause is, however, still being investigated.

Evacuation orders and warnings were issued to more than 31,000 people in the vicinity of two new wildfires north of Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The two largest fires, the Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades and the Eaton Fire near Pasadena, remain active. One of the latest, the Hughes Fire in the Castaic area, has prompted evacuation orders for tens of thousands of people.

The Hughes fire about 50 miles north of Los Angeles further taxed firefighters in the region who have managed to bring two major fires in the metropolitan area largely under control.
