A U.S. Border Patrol agent was fatally shot on a highway in northern Vermont south of the Canadian border, authorities said.

U.S. Border Patrol Agent David “Chris” Maland, 44, was shot and killed during a traffic stop near the Canadian border Monday. He is a native of Blue Earth and graduate of Fairmont High School in Minnesota.
