CINCINNATI ( Cincinnati Business Courier) - A Ohio-based furniture and appliance retailer is closing for business for good. American Freight Furniture and Mattress has announced it is closing its nationwide chain of stores including the one in Athens. American Freight operates a store in the Athens West Shopping Center off Atlanta Highway. The store is one of 15 stores in cities across Georgia from Savannah to the Atlanta metro area, according to its website.

American Freight Appliances and Furniture recently “commenced store closing sales at all of its 328 locations and online,” according to a Wednesday, Nov. 6, news release from Hilco Consumer-Retail, which is managing the sales for American Freight.

American Freight is shuttering all of its locations and kicking off store closing sales as part of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings by its parent company.

All six of New York's American Freight furniture stores will be closing as a result of its parent company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, the company announced earlier this week. New York isn't the only state affected though as Ohio-based Franchise Group Inc.

American Freight, a discount furniture and appliance retailer with more than 328 locations across 41 states, including California, is permanently closing all of its stores as its parent company navigates bankruptcy.
