Treasury minister Tulip Siddiq has resigned after growing pressure over an anti-corruption investigation in Bangladesh. The Labour MP for Hampstead and Highgate had referred herself to Sir Keir Starmer's standards adviser, Sir Laurie Magnus, but insisted she has done nothing wrong.

One of the biggest questions is why someone Siddiq’s ties was given the job of anti-corruption minister in the first place.

Siddiq clung on for days to her post in Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ team. But while insisting that she had done nothing wrong, the MP concluded in a resignation letter to Sir Keir that her continuing in the post would be a “distraction”.
