Chennai and surrounding areas are expected to experience heavy rainfall on Wednesday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for the city and eleven other districts. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC),

It continued raining in Chennai the entire night. Adyar, Meenambakkam, and Nandanam received 6 cm overnight. Wednesday was expected to be isolated heavy rainfall in a few places with conditions likely to ease out on Thursday. In view of this precautionary measure, schools were shut down in Perambalur, Ariyalur and Cuddalore districts.

Chennai is expected to have a maximum temperature of around 30 degrees Celsius, with the minimum temperature likely ranging between 24 and 25 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has warned that besides Chennai, districts including Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, and Madurai are expected to see heavy rain throughout the day.

Initially, Chennai officials indicated that schools would operate as usual; however, the decision was reversed within 30 minutes due to the intensity of the rainfall and the forecast for showers.
