Ronnie Mosley (21st) blasted Aldi after its West Pullman neighborhood store closed over the weekend. Mosley called the closure of the store at 821 W. 115th St. a betrayal. Some residents said they were completely caught off guard by the closure.

Meanwhile, the Batavia-based company opened a Forest Park location last week as it continues a national expansion plan, announced earlier this year.

The sudden closure of West Pullman’s Aldi, 821 W. 115th St., came one year after Ald. Ronnie Mosley (21st) met with company representatives who “assured our community that they were here to stay,” Mosley said in a statement. At the time, Aldi leaders said they also intended to remodel and expand the store, Mosley said.

Aldi is in an all-out expansion blitz, but for some Chicago residents it feels like a different story. The discount grocery chain abruptly closed its store in West Pullman on Sunday, just six weeks after shutting down another location in Lincoln Park.

Chicagoans who live in the city’s West Pullman neighborhood pulled up to find their neighborhood grocery store closed for business this week. “I was here a few days ago and I noticed it was empty,” Ebony Williams said.
