Officials in Carolina Beach are urging residents to stay home as the town deals with ongoing flooding. The town has received more than 15 inches of rain since midnight Monday.

Two days after the storm passed, some roads were still closed in the town, and town officials say the historic rainfall has produced millions of dollars in damages.

Tropical storm-force winds and heavy rainfall continue across the Carolina coast as Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight moved onshore Monday.

Strong rain bands spinning ashore from a slow-moving tropical weather system just off the North Carolina coast led to major flooding in Brunswick and New Hanover counties. Both Carolina Beach and Southport saw nearly all roads impassable and, at least for Southport, some roads damaged and likely out of service for days.

The beaches where swimmers should avoid are in New Hanover, Carteret and Brunswick counties after areas were heavily flooded on Monday, officials said.
