Boeing began notifying employees of layoffs Wednesday as it seeks to reduce its roughly 170,000-strong workforce by 10%.

Boeing said on Tuesday it delivered 14 commercial jets in October, less than half of the 34 jets it handed over to customers during the same month in 2023, after a weeks-long strike halted most of its aircraft production.

Machinists are set to fully return this week, but Boeing has said it'll take weeks for factories to get fully rolling. The company reported Tuesday it delivered just 14 jets in October — its lowest mark since November 2020. Boeing is also continuing with plans to cut about 17,000 jobs.

Boeing says it will be several weeks before it fully resumes building passenger planes, as factory workers return following a strike that lasted nearly two months.

Boeing received its first order after reaching a deal with striking machinists, but it still faces a difficult road ahead.
