On a PTO, Max Pacioretty is starting on the fifth line and must prove all over again to the Maple Leafs that he’s worthy of an everyday NHL gig. Luke Fox has the story.

Pacioretty returned from his second Achilles injury midway through last season with the Washington Capitals. He had four goals and 19 assists in 47 games with the club and had one assist in four playoff games with Washington. The production was considered low by the 35-year-old's standards.

The veteran forward, the No. 2 overall pick by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2007 NHL draft, is coming off a productive season with the Boston Bruins. He tallied 38 points (11 goals, 27 assists) in the regular season and added 5 points in 11 postseason matchups.
