Q:
My grandfather, Antonio Cracco, worked for the Homestake in the 1900's. When we visited Lead, Deadwood and Rapid City in the early 1960's, we still had relatives living in Lead and Deadwood. My grandmother told us our grandfather was killed in the mine. I have doubts about this story since they were divorced in 1911. Are there any records dating that far back?
A:
Lawrence County has records. The Lead Library is good source. Also, try the Adams Museum.
Q:
Can you pan for gold
A:
I don't believe you can pan for gold.
Q:
Is there an opportunity to memorize my family members who worked in the mine?
A:
You would have to check with the visitor center as above. What a nice idea.
